A Community Movement · Mahopac, New York

Mahopac
Swims.

Give our children the water they deserve.

Mahopac is one of Putnam County's largest school districts.
Not one of our schools has a pool.
No swim lessons. No high school team. No middle school feeder program.
No community aquatic facility. That ends with us.

In Loving Memory

"Smitty"
Cooke

A Father · A Champion of Children · d. 2012

In 1984, my father — everyone called him Smitty — purchased 1.9 acres of land in Mahopac at 14 Charles Place, right across from the high school. He was a man who believed in children. In sport. In community. In the idea that where you grow up shouldn't limit what you can become.

He passed away from cancer in 2012. He never got to see this dream. But every child who learns to swim in these waters will carry his spirit forward. This pool is for him — and for every Mahopac child who deserves better.

Proposed Name
The Smitty Cooke
Memorial Natatorium
$250K
Cooke Family Legacy Fund A founding gift in Smitty's memory to kick-start this facility for the children of Mahopac.

Our Children Deserve Better

Mahopac families drive 30+ minutes to Westchester or Dutchess County just to find a pool. That is not good enough for a community this size.

No Swim Education

Lakeview Elementary's 598 students have zero access to swim instruction as part of their education. It is simply not available to them.

Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children ages 1–4
🏆

No High School Team

Mahopac High School cannot field a swim team — and Mahopac Middle School has no feeder program to build toward one. Student-athletes have no aquatic pathway whatsoever.

Zero competitive aquatic opportunities for MS or HS athletes

No Community Pool

There is no public indoor pool in Mahopac. Families pay private gym memberships and drive long distances for something every child should have access to.

A Pool That Belongs to Everyone

One facility. Every generation. Morning to night.

School Hours

Every Child Learns to Swim

Kindergarten through 5th grade swim lessons built into the school day at Lakeview Elementary. By 3rd grade, every child masters all four competitive strokes. No exceptions. No cost to families.

Early Afternoons · Twice a Week

Middle School Feeder Program

Mahopac Middle School students — bused over from their campus just minutes away — train twice a week in a club and intramural program designed to develop the next generation of Mahopac varsity swimmers. The earlier slot means varsity never runs late.

Afternoons · After Middle School

Mahopac HS Gets a Swim Team

For the first time ever, Mahopac High School will field a competitive swim team. Short course and long course. NCAA pathways. Championships. A new generation of Mahopac athletes — many of them trained right here since middle school.

Varsity & JV · Short + Long Course
Summers

Camp, Community & Open Swim

A full summer aquatic camp for children ages 5–15. Morning lap swim for adults. Family open swim. A safe, affordable place to spend a summer day — right here in Mahopac.

Evenings

Triathlon, Masters & Family Time
